The Depreciation Lands in Cranberry Township

The table below contains a rough layout of the Depreciation Lands survey tracts in Cranberry Township. Based upon a map of Allegheny County that has numbered lots, the numbering of the lots in Alexander's and Nicholson's parts of District 3 were determined for Cranberry by continuing the numbering pattern demonstrated in Allegheny County on into Butler County. Note that Alexander and Nicholson did not use the same method to number their respective territories. Information on Douglass's section of District 3 does not seem to be properly indexed and is going to take a little work to figure out.

At the center of each cell in the table below is a lot number followed by either an F or an R. Each respectively is a link to the front or rear side of the survey page for that lot. Note that the cell size in the table bears no relationship to the lot size, and that Alexander's and Nicholson's sections do not usually line up with each other at the horizontal boundaries as depicted in the table. Soon, the lots will be laid out more accurately onto the 1874 township map to get a better idea of their position.

Cells shaded in yellow contain portions of the Venango Trail. Portions shaded in light blue contain portions of the Kuskusky Path. Lot 75 of Nicholson's part of District 3 contains a newer survey that shows the Pittsburgh Mercer Road. This is where the Black Bear Tavern was located at the time of that survey, yet it is not depicted. Conversely, the Garvin Tavern would have been directly north in lot 71. Here are the front and back of the original Graham property survey from June 25th 1783. C149-176 from Douglass' section is not an original survey - still looking. Note that C149-176 shows Franklin Road moved from 92F Venango Trail. C55-27 is from 1815 and extends east and south of the township boundaries - Not original but close.
