Wayne Cole, the author of Ghost Rails II, dropped in at 2:00 pm and spoke at great length on the subject of his book, the Western Allegheny Railroad (WARR) railroad and coal towns that were located under what is now Lake Arthur. This was a very interesting program and in addition to our own members, attracted visitors from several neighboring historical groups, as well as the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. If you would like to have a look at an old USGS topographic map of the area showing remnants of the railroad grade or the 1874 maps of the involved townships, follow these links to the
USGS map
showing the abandoned railroad grade along Muddy Creek west of Queen Junction and heading towards Coopers Lake, and also the 1874 maps of
Worth,
Brady,
Muddy Creek, and
Franklin
; the four townships that are spanned by the lake.
