What's Going On

Depreciation Lands Survey Project Under Way

The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commision has painstakingly posted thousands upon thousands of original land surveys for the state of Pennsylvania. There are a number of indexes to the surveys, and as you begin to look for the surveys for any one place, you immediately find that the information is scattered all over the place. Organizing the surveys into a table so that you can easily view the surveys for Cranberry Township is under way. Alexander's part of district 3, which equates to roughly the left 40% of the township is complete. A menu item entitled Depreciation Lands will eventually appear in the menu to the left and will tell the Depreciation Lands story and then lead to the survey table. Until then, you will find the survey table here.

Portersville Steam Show - July 31

Steam powered tractorThe Portersville Steam Show - Summer Show begins on Thursday and runs from July 31, 2008 through August 3, 2008. If you have an interest in old time machinery, this is the place to be. There are antique engines and farm tractors, a turn of the century engine powered saw mill, print shop and an old time service station. There is a miniature train for the kids, numerous antique iron exhibits brought in by the locals, civil war re-enactors, and plenty of food and drink, all set in a county fair like atmosphere. Check out their website for more information. Only about 30 minutes north of Cranberry on Route 19 in Portersville. Directions

PHMC Marker Dedication in Franklin Park - August 24

On Sunday August 24, 2008 at 1:30pm, Franklin Park and the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission will dedicate a Kuskusky Path Historical Marker along Brandt School Road at the Trinity Lutheran Church, built in 1868. The Kuskusky Path traveled along Brandt School Road, through Wexford, Warrendale and then through Cranberry, on it's way to the Indian town of Kuskusky (New Castle). The Cranberry Historical Society will have an exhibit table at this event, so be sure to visit us there. Directions

Tom Hannon's Cemetery Tour - September 14

The Cranberry Township Historical Society has invited Tom Hannon to join us on September 14, 2008 at 2pm, at Plains Church where he will conduct a tour of one of the oldest cemetery's in the township. Plains Church Cemetery is the final resting place of many of our townships early founders, including Matthew Graham who arrived in what is now Cranberry Township in 1796. The tour is open to the general public and is FREE of charge. The Historical Society will provide snacks and refreshments for this event. Directions
