What Do You Think About the Rain Barrel?
Forums:
At our October 28, 2008 board meeting, the board viewed a presentation by Allison Stebbins, a 5th grade teacher at Haine Elementary School, and her students, about the modern day use of rain barrels. Ms. Stebbins introduced the students, who put on a very nice presentation. Their idea is to have rain barrel classes around the township and the group felt that Sample School would be a great place to install a permanent rain barrel for such purposes.
Following the presentation, a motion was made, seconded and a vote was taken and the board thereby agreed to have the barrel installed with the following provisions:
1. The container (barrel) must represent the time period of the school, like a wooden barrel.
2. Barrel to be placed at the back and side of the school away from Rochester Road (the south wall of the southeast corner of the building).
3. Since we don't know how this will work out it was agreed to approve installation for a two year evaluation period.
Following that meeting, CTHS member Lorin Meeder acquired, donated and installed the rain barrel for us, and the end of the evaluation period is approaching. You can look at the pictures of the rain barrel in the photo gallery, in case you do not have an opportunity to see it in person. Remember that it will be disconnected from the down spout for the winter, so that it does not freeze up.
Sample School is a community asset and the board would like to hear from as many people as possible about the rain barrel. Do you like it or not? Use this forum topic to discuss the rain barrel. You can also cast your vote in the opinion poll so that we have a tally to review. Thank you in advance for thoughts and opinions on this issue.
